Michael B. Cohen is an elder law attorney whose Dallas law practice focuses on the legal needs of the disabled and elderly, including estate and Medicaid and other public benefits (such as Veterans benefits) planning. He is a frequent speaker on these topics.
Mr. Cohen is a member of the Board of Directors of the Texas chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and previously served as the president of the chapter. He is also Past Chair of the Solo & Small Firms Section and the Probate, Trusts and Estates Section of the Dallas Bar Association. He is also past President of the Dallas Chapter of the Society of Financial Service Professionals.
Additionally, he is presently serving as the Co-Chair of the Alzheimer’s Association’s North East Texas Chapter, the AGE Council of the Senior Source, the Board of Directors of the Dallas Chapter of the Society of Financial Service Professionals, the Board of Directors of The Legacy Senior Communities and The Legacy Midtown Park and as President of the Elderly Communal Housing at Dallas (ECHAD). He is also on the State Bar’s Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee for the Dallas region and is an adjunct Professor of Law at Texas A&M University School of Law. He has been accredited by the Veterans Administration to give legal advice regarding Veterans benefits.
He is also named as one of Texas’ Top Rated Lawyers and assigned the highest rating (AV) by Martindale Hubbell. Based on an independent survey, he has been named by Texas Monthly as one of the Best Wealth Managers in terms of client satisfaction (and the only D/FW attorney mentioned in the area of long term care). He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Texas at Austin and from Southern Methodist University School of Law and was a member of the honorary fraternity of Phi Beta Kappa.
